My guess is this uses a cable for speedo if analog??
If not or either way it might use a speed sensor at trans which would also set off SES light.
SES light - get a code reading.

Parking brake/any brake light - check fluid level first. This vehicle would be highly subject to frozen brake cables and it would stick partly on also,

Tom is correct that on this model it could use either a cable or a speed sensor. To see which one you have just look under the truck at the tailshaft & see if you have a cable going to it or 2 wires going to a sensor....

If it's a sensor (VSS) it doesn't go thru the radio. The speed sensor generates an a/c signal which goes into VSS buffer which converts into a digital signal. But lets find out what you have 1st...

Also as Tom suggested, find out what codes are happening to maybe help point you into the right direction.........

Re: 93 Chevy s10 speedometer Sign In

The speed sensor is a common failure on those but you should check it out 1st.
You can check the wires & make sure you have reference voltage (purple wire??). I'm guessing you don't have a scope to check the pattern..... I imagine you could use a volt meter on a/c setting, tap into the return line (yellow??) & just look for voltage flucuations????

on this system you still will have a VSS buffer.... the comp whats to see a digital signal even if the speedo head is analog

You really should see what codes you are getting..... Most parts store will pull codes for OBD II systems.... Your's is OBD I so I'm not sure on that..... The paper clip method ist to ground terminal a & b of DLC (connector under the dash) & count the flashes.. each code is flashed 3 times & then on to the next code again 3 times....it will start out with a 12... one flash...pause...2 flashes....3 times & on to the next one.....

A & B are on the top row all the way to the right (notch of connector on top....wider part on the bottom)
