93 ranger power loss Sign In

I was driving home from work recently, and I noticed that all of a sudden (never really has to my knowledge happened before anyway) my truck starts losing power in 5th gear.. I can't seem to keep any speeds at 55+ in 5th, not to mention almost zero acceleration more noticeably on hills. Any suggestions would really be aprecated. ThanksSmile

180k is some miles friend. This could be lots of things. Doesn't usually show up in no time but restricted exhaust can cause nice even loss of power like clogged cat/conv(s),

Exhaust may very well be a possibility. I recently had the Y pipe replaced. However it was sometime ago(month or two) and this was a recently created issue.Unimpressed heh... This one seems to be a stumper for most, everyone suggestions transmission since it's only in 5th gear and no power loss in 1-4 but I will most certainly give it a look see thank you. Any other suggestions I would love to hear them Wink

Old fashioned check for exhaust restriction: Put a vacuum gauge on intake manifold vacuum source in line as a "T". At idle it should read about 18hg on a gauge and the same at about 2,000 steady held fast idle. If lower at the higher RPM than idle exhaust is restricted - where is still not known by that test. The vehicle may feel ok for power with less load on the engine,
