94 Chev Silverado Transmission slipping ?

Hi Gang,
Great site !!
I have a chev Silverado 1994 short box extended cab 305 for some reason it has just started to delay when put in reverse. Then it bangs into reverse hard backs up fine though. As for the rest of the transmission functions they seem fine only in reverse....
Any advice would be much appreciated.

You may want to start by checking the u-joints on the drive shaft. If they have any play you will get a clunking noise from them. Also, a common problem on GM trucks, if you have heard a squeaking noise at low speeds that seems to get faster as you speed up is an indicator that the "permanently sealed" u-joints are dry and need to be changed. Thanks for the fast response Steve. It is not just the bang noise when put in reverse its the 15 - 20 second delay after the shifter has been put in reverse that worries me. The universal joints give no viberation while driving at all at low or high speeds.

Let's start with the fluid. Make sure the level is full and the fluid has a pink color to it. You may luck out with simply having the filter changed and getting the tranny flushed out. I don't like to change just the filter and the 5 quarts that just sits in the pan. I prefer getting the whole thing flushed with a machine to ensure that it is put back into new condition fluid wise and going from there.
Also, a pressure test now could save you headaches down the road if you find out that a problem is starting. Good luck and Happy Holidays.

Hi Steve checked the tranny fluid it doesn't smell burnt or really look to dark but I will have a service done. I had a tranny service done at 100,000 KM and now have 165,000 KM on it now. It is well worth the $80.00 it will cost. Thanks again for the info. Hope you holiday was good as well.
