95 intrepid stuck in first gear Sign In

Irescently got my intrepid up and running(thanks to this site). It sat for 30 months, and needed some things replaced, serviced, and kicked but she's starting right up now. before parking it, had the tranny replaced with a known good one. drove for a couple days and parked it. Now it's stuck in first gear. Shifter wwont move with key off, reverse, neutral and park where they should be. connections are good at pcm and gearbox. replaced filter/ fluid.what could it be? Should it be calibrated with code scanner due to the replacement way back(only drove maybe 30 miles before parking it). Engine is at operating temp, and trction control on or off makes no diference.

DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP, BUT ON DODGES, THERE IS A SHIFT SOLENOID ON THE TRANNY, IF THIS GOES BAD, IT WON'T SHIFT, I WOULD CHECK THAT FIRST. MAKE SURE IT DIDN'T COME UNPLUGGED, THEN CHANGE IT.

The transmission control module may only need what is called “shift quality quick-lean procedure” performed.
This would mean; connecting a scan tool that had the capability of entering and performing this function?
NOT A CODE READER; THAT’S ALL A READER CAN DO IS READ ENGINE MANAGEMENT ONLY CODES? IT IS NOT A SCAN TOOL!
Sorry for yelling but so many people seem to think their 50 or whatever dollar reader will do or is the same thing as what a 10 to 15,000 dollar scanner is and does.
Yes a reader can retrieve SOME codes but a proper scanner will allow you to monitor data from all systems (Power train, body-control and chassis), perform and receive by-directional commands along with the basic code retrieval. OK enough of that LOL

This part of your post confuses me (not hard to do).

Do you mean you cannot physically move the gear shifter from the first gear position? If so then you may have a mechanical issue; with the shifter assembly, cable or the mechanisms inside the trans?

Re: 95 intrepid stuck in first gear Sign In

Hi DanD Sorry for confusinion about:code/scan reader. I plan to take it to shop and have them do the scan deal. I dont own one, but should invest in one. I said the shifter wont move with key off so nobody would assume the linkage was not right. It moves through all the shift points, shift in reverse, it in reverse, shift in park, it in park, shift in "d" it on first and stays there. Try shifting down to 1 and 2 while driving, just stays in first.Where is the shift solenoid located and can it be tested? It is a duty cycle, so I know NOT to apply voltage During all the repairs on the car last couple weeks, My computer crashed so I'm using my office pc, which I can't type on very well. or type what I want to say sorry for confusion

Chrysler is also bad about the Input and Output Speed Sensors failing. Might want to check those also.
