'97 Blazer shifts oddly Sign In

1997 Chevy Blazer
S-10; 2-dr 4WD
4.3 L Vortec V-6
About 100,000 miles

(I bought my Blazer with the current issues because the guy from whom I bought the truck said it had MINOR transmission problems.)

The truck starts up fine and everything but when you put it in drive the car does not creep or anything, it stays put. When I push on the gas the truck barely accelerates and the RPM's shoot up; however, if I put it down in first and manually shift it, it does a better job at shifting. Sometimes it does not seem to shift into high gear either, it shifts from 2nd to 3rd fine though. I have checked the fluids and they are fine, replaced the filter and fluids as well. I don't know where to go from here, is it just a bad transmission? Also, my key is stuck in the ignition; I can't turn it back to get the key out. I read about an access hole that will allow you to get a jammed key out, but I am uncertain where that is located..

I have a bridge I want to sell you too. If it was so minor, why didn't he fix it so it would be easier to sell.

You have some serious issues and you will need a trans specialist to get it diagnosed properly. You could have a bad valve body but it needs to be checked.

Though the transmission problems are minor, fixing them will not be. The transmission will have to be dropped and most likely rebuilt. Take it to a specialist or start looking for a new vehicle.

It would also be a good idea to make sure you put the correct fluids in. Otherwise you may have caused even more problems for yourself. Here's an deleted if you want the details.

I think the "Columbus Day Storm" was in the mid '60's, if I remember. '64 if not mistaken. The bridge incident, I believe, was in the '40s or very early '50s? Not real sure on that. I can vividly remember the Columbus Day Storm. Scared the
'heck' out of me. At the time, I was 6' tall. Afterwards, I was 5' 6". And, had brown stains on my legs. Hmmmmm?

Kitty is watching of course. This thread drifted - my fault!

Remember - they had a smoking section on the Hindenburg - no sh*t!
