97 firebird tranny HELP! Sign In

i have a 97 firebird and i was driving down the road and i couldnt accelerate. the tranny was just rebuilt a couple months ago. when parked or rev the engine in park it sounds like a little pop or something slapping under the car...like a band or something. im pretty sure its not the gears... there has been no slip at all... it just stopped and i couldnt accelerate. the dumbass company who rebuilt it obviously does a Sh!tty job because ive taken it back 3 times within this year under warranty. i just need help deciding what it could be so i can decide to take it back again or to a new shop. thanks

it doesn't sound like a transmission problem it sounds like a catalytic converter. i own a 97 dodge ram and my cat has been replaced twice. and the only way i could tell was that the vehicle loses a lot of power when i accelerate plus it sound like an empty coke can rolling around in there. the exhaust sound should be pretty easy to tell because it won't be a steady flow it will be a rapid repeating sound. i hope this helps.

You need to listen to the engine with hood up or the tail pipe to make sure that the sounds that you are hearing are not coming from the engine, if they are not...then its likely the torque converter is slipping, try holding the brake and giving it gas at the same time, this is one way to tell.
