I was in 3rd gear and heard a clangclang from under the car. Lost power and rpms were all over. Downshifted into second, worked normal, tried to shift back up to 3rd but had same problem. Drove the rest of the eay home (a mile) in second. Once home i started smelling something like burning rubber or tranny fluid. Ideas on what happened?? *EDIT: 3rd gear is undrivable, pressing the accelerator does nothing in 3rd

Was there any repair work done related to the transmission recently? Did you look under the vehicle to see if there was anything leaking onto the exhaust? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I'm going to guess its more of an engine issue than a trans issue. It drove in 2nd instead of 3rd because the engine power was so low. The fact that it was unable to start confirms this because a good engine fires up even with a blown trans. You need to find out what you blew and the extent. Check fuel pressure, check for injector pulse, check spark quality and post any codes present on your ECM. Then do a compression test. Check the fluids and note if any are low or contaminated. Pay close attention to the oil. If milky or silver flakes you blew the motor up.
