97 tahoe needs new transmission Sign In

I was wondering if I can use a 700r4 in my 97 tahoe to replace the 4l60e. Or if there were maybe other options available. If anyone knows it would be a great help.

Due to transmission computer controls, you must stay with the same trans. Sorry.

So it wouldn't be possible to bypass the computer controls for the transmission. Would it make the engine not run right or something? Thank you for your knowledge cause I honestly have no idea.

Well, Guess that about settles it, I won't go there. Now I'm not sure what to do with the vehicle. I can't afford to fix or replace the tranny in it cause it's the most expensive one I can find. Maybe it's off to wrecker. Bummer.

Mike; Unless the Tahoe is just plain worn out, those are pretty darned nice vehicles, and would seem that it would be worth 'fixing'. Have you tried calling around to wrecking yards, looking for a low mileage used trans? Have you had your existing transmission diagnosed by a reputable shop? Don't hesitate to get several opinions. Sorry that I 'bummed' you out. If you decide to 'junk it', contact your local Humane Society, ours will pay for the tow and it will go to a great cause. But, I'd exhaust all options, first.

Now, how in the heck did you know that? I'm kind of right in the middle, between Seattle and Redmond.
