Hi,
My 4 cylinder 98 Camry doesn't move in drive, and the local garage diagnosed it as a possible transmission failure.
Does anybody have a ballpark estimate of what it might cost to fix something like this?

Thanks!

Rule out the obvious like is it properly full of ATF? If burnt or burn smell you will probably need an overhaul. Price could vary but expect about $1,200 to $1,500.

If you do find it low on fluid you still have to find out why, T

Does the car move in any gear? Believe it or not, I had a customer who called a trans. shop and they quoted her a price of $2000 over the phone. It got towed to me and it turned out to be a broken cv joint. Make sure they get checked first before you spend money on a trans.

thanks...
the car was low on transmission fluid - i did have it topped off, but it made no difference.
The garage shop also checked for a broken CV joint, but that wasn't it.
