Chevy Malibu
2.4 L
1999
185,000 miles

Hello all, I just replaced the transmission in my 99 Malibu. Took it for a short test drive last night and it drove fine, smooth shifts, however, I noticed that the speedometer seemed "jumpy" didnt notice any issues with the way that it drove/shifted but it seemed odd. This morning I took it for a longer test drive and noticed some concerning issues about 6 miles in to my trip. The speedometer started jumping again only this time the car was reacting with the RPMs' going up and down. Taking off I noticed that the car hesitates to go in to gear and slams in to second. It doesnt seem to know which gear it wants to be in. I have uploaded a video for you guys to take a look at. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, let me know if you need any more information from me.

It is losing the VSS signal for some reason. That would cause the PCM to get confused as when to shift the transmission. Your going to take it to a shop that can look at the VSS pid using a scan tool and to have the VSS circuit and sensor tested.

They may need to connect a scope to monitor the VSS signal.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, just looking at the sensor I can see that the wires are damaged, probably during the replacement of the old one. I will start there and let you all know how it went.

Thanks again!
