I have a '99 monte carlo that is having transmission issues and i'm not sure if it is a major repair or a small problem. If my car sits for about 3 hours or more, It needs to run for 25 minutes to even get it to shift gears, and where it shifts, it shifts harder than it used to. I had a mechanic look at it a few weeks ago, and he flushed my fluid and replaced my filter. He said that he saw no sings of the transmission needing a rebuild, and that it looked to be in great condition, but his work didn't change anything. He told me to bring it back and he would try some other things before suggesting a re build. Could this still be a small problem or am I royally screwed?

It sounds like you brought a transmission problem to a dentist. He obviously is not experienced in transmission diagnosis. You need to get it to a reputable transmission specialist for an accurate diagnosis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Any trouble codes stored in the engine computer? If so, write down the numbers. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

X2 I want to second what my colleagues posted ... sounds like poor advice from your 'tech' so far. Get the system scanned and post the codes... Have another (transmission) technician help you with this..

The thing is that the guy apparently a transmission guy. i don't know jack about cars, but he came highly recommended from a friend. he said that it showed no codes. i read somewhere online that it could be a problem with seals going bad, causing there to be no pressure until the seals warm up and can hold. any truth to this?

Trust me........... this guy is not a trans specialist. He may be a nice guy but he doesn't know squat about transmissions.
