tranny problem !!! Reverse and 2nd . Big bummer or easy fix ????

2001, Auto , RWD , 60,000m , abused but loved.

Progressively worsening of reverse engagement. That is slip then grab for a week once a day. Now grinding non engagement .
ABS indicator lit up on last attempt to reverse.
Now on last trip ; second started ? slipping / gabbing or something so I have not used it.

Not a lot of miles on this and I was thinking the limited slip optional rear differential or brake drum problem was the cause of these symptoms.

Seems it must be tranny after all and any suggestions as to ether further diagnose or repair this will be welcomed.

A good indicator is your tranny fluid start the van. check level and condition

Bad signs
-Bad smell (brunt smell)|
-Blackish in color
-Has very small metal filings in it.
-if level is high may be the pump in the tranny not working properly or plugged filter.

If you are still unsure drop the pan.

Look at the magnet if it looks like a chia-pet you are in trouble. if you still unsure take the filter out and pry it open then open the cloth inside with a razor and look for any signs of metal.
