Hi My Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.6 Petrol Automatic stalls while driving. I was on a motorway and doing about 60 miles/hr when it stalled. I stopped on the left with hazard lights on. Tried to sart it and it did not start. GAve up for 30 secs. Tried and it worked. Drove it for about 2-3 mins and stalled again. It again didn't start immediately. HAd to wait for 15 secs or so and it started again. Any idea why it can be and what;s wrong? Thanks a lot.

Yes, I would say. Do you think it is a filter problem? OR should I replace fuel pump as well?

I would start with the filter necause it's due for change and to eliminate that as being the problem.

By the way, I ve realised that it does not happen when the fuel tank is more than the quarter (1/4). I'll replace the fuel filter first to eliminate it. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks a lot my friend.

Fuel filter don't really cause driveability problems on these symptoms but the DO lead to fuel pump failures when they are not changed when they should. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

So, what would you recommend? To replace both? or the filter first and then fuel pump if needed? Thanks.

I'm not telling you to replace anything. You first need to determine if fuel pressure is even the issue and if it is, don't expect a fuel filter alone to resolve the issue.

Guys I replaced my fuel filter and got a new fuel pump from a friend of mine. The only difference, as far as I can see, is white thingy just underneath the lid of the fuel pump. My fuel pump has this white thing with black wire connected to it. The other one does not have it. To me, it sounds like earth conn. What do you suggest? How can I make sure whether this conn is necessary or do I have to do something else to earth it?
