Hi everyone. I have a Mazda 626 1999 with transmission problems and some other issues. I'm a college student so I'm receiving some help from the rents. At an estimate of 2,500 my mother wanted to make sure this was accurate. She believes it's too high.
This estimate is from a transmission repair shop that specializes in them.
The transmission is leaking, it needs rebuilt, idler pully is broken, and the serpentine belt is broken.
Apologies if I didn't spell things correctly.
Any opinions is appreciated!

I forgot to mention that it's an LX and 6 cylinder.

Please, any opinions.
We wanted to have repairs started this Monday. We were not sure if we should take it to another shop or not. Until it is repaired, I'll have to rent a car seeing as classes start Monday too...

Had one done last year, for $1800, but that was our price as a dealer/shop from a trans shop. I believe it was the exact same vehicle. Depending on your location, I dont think thats an outrageous number. You can always get another estimate though. Never hurts. Dont be tempted to find the cheapest place around. Find the really good shop and pay the little extra. You will regret cheaping out on a trans rebuild. If this place specializes in Mazda trans and has a good reputation, I would go there as they have probably rebuilt tons of those (junk) 626 transmissions.

Ditto w Rob. It's hard to be exact and better done right ONCE. Prices will vary location by location as labor rates vary. If that includes the belt the pulley and is a specialty trans shop NOW you are saying you are renting a car so time counts. The specialty shop is much more likely to be faster.
If you squeeze out for the cheapest possible I agree with Ron again, you'll regret that,
