Hard shift into reverse from drive

Hello everyone I have an 06/2011 build Lincoln MKX 3.7L 154k miles that i recently purchased Trans shifts smooth through all gears in drive but at a standstill going from drive into reverse it slams it in. I have become accustomed to waiting in neutral for about 10seconds before reverse and that will make it shift smooth, i can't wait that long in certain circumstances and hope it's something simple. Previous owner said trans fluid was changed at 150k and level is right where it needs to be, I do plan to do a pan drain and fill at 155k miles. It only seems to do this once trans is at full operating temps and going from park to reverse doesn't slam it either. Its like the trans is in a spooled forward motion too long and if i try to stop and shift to revers within a sec or two it will slam so again i'm waiting up to 15 secs so it shifts smooth. Hope I made sense. Please let me know any additional info you may need to help figure this out... Thank you in advance for any help Would like to add that I believe this mkx uses Ford's 6F50 6-speed automatic transmission.

Hello, Are there ant trouble codes present for the transmission? This trans has a clutch pack that is applied in 3rd, 5th and reverse, so if it upshifts ok, the clutch pack may not be an issue. Have you looked at the axles? Is the car an AWD? Gary

Would a trans code set off the same check engine light if so then there is no check engine.. It upshifts and downshifts perfect. It is an AWD and have not checked the axles

Hello, Check the axles, sometimes the inner joint wears, check mounts too. On an AWD vehicle, make sure all tires are the same make, model and size. Gary

All tires match. I hope to make time to get under it before the snow comes to check those front axles and I'll have to change the Trans fluid and see if there's any change. I was just hoping that there was an external solonoid of some sort that controlled the switching from drive to reverse but not that easy I guess. I'll just have to keep waiting before switching to reverse for now until it's figured out, it's only going to be driven about 3k a year or less. Thank you again for the help

Hello, Shouldn't really be a solenoid, I have had other cars with similar issue and it was axle problems. Gary

I have to suck out the oil from the transfer case soon and will look over the axles while I'm under there. Will post up what I find with that when I get to it. Thanks
