Dealing with a shop that claims that the transmission is rebuild based on the warranty purchased and therefore you must select a warranty BEFORE the rebuilding starts.
This is what they are telling me....
Why? If one year then rebuilt to factory specs. With two year warranty, the updates are included, valves, etc.

So, I call another shop (affiliated with this one), and propose a hypothetical, and he informs me that the rebuild level is the same. In fact, he offered to go with the one year and rebuild and then within 30 days come back if I want the two year, and pay the difference.

Any idea where the truth lies here?

If it is where I think what do I do next? My inclination is to get the car and argue later.

Thanks

Ab

I would be VERY suspicious of a game like that. It can change in the number of parts replaced rather than re-used. There are a lot of variables in rebuilding a transmission that will determine how long it will last. For example, if a hard part has some wear but still has 15,000 usable miles left in it, it could be re-used if the warranty ends that soon or replaced to last 100K. Sounds like a shop to stay away from.

Thanks, but too late! I was traveling and my soon to be wife handled it. They have the car, charged the card 100%. It is an ATRA shop, so trying there for recourse.
