I have a 97 cavalier manual transmission. About a week ago i was having trouble shifting, i took it in the said my fluid had spilled. It WAS working fine until this morning. I started my car and it started shaking, the car literally started shaking. I also noticed the clutch was easier to press down than normal. At first i thought it was just because it was cold outside, its only like 25 degrees out, but as i started driving i could not shift at all. I tried to shift to 2nd and it stayed in neutral and i had to force it. Luckily i got to school, but The clutch never got back to normal. Is it the cold, or is it something worse?

This sounds like hydraulic linkage has a leak. It may not work just to fill it up so get this fixed ASAP before you damage something. DON'T FORCE IT AND IT COULD TAKE OFF EVEN WITH THE CLUTCH TO THE FLOOR AS IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE IT'S NOT DISENGAGING. TOW IT IF NEED BE. THIS COULD STILL BE A REASONABLE REPAIR AND YOU RISK BIG BUCKS OR WORSE -- LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR!!!! Hit back and tell us some good news about this, T

Unfortunatlly i didnt come back with good news. Its my master cylinder. Do you know how much its going to cost me including labor?

I don't really know the prices of part but they should be resonable. There are three parts that can be the problem and a guess is about $40 bucks each. Master cylinder, flex hose, and slave cylinder. Figure an hour's labor at the rate of the shop and some brake fluid which is cheap. You could just call a parts store and ask and expect the list price charged at the shop which varies but around 40% more than you might find it yourself but they don't work that way as you know. If it's already known it's just the master cylinder then that would be it. At any rate it's better than trashing the transmission over it, T
