Jerks when accelerating from dead stop

I have an 04 Olds Silhouette (one of the "Final 500"). 3400 engine, 2 wheel drive, auto trans.104,000 miles. Lately when I'm driving, if I come to a dead stop, and accelerate normal, the vehicle jerks (like in the rear) then takes off, runs and shifts fine. If I accelerate slow from a dead stop or a slight roll, it takes off smoothly. It shifts well and if I want to pass, goes from overdrive to passing gear with no problem! Any ideas?

Check engine light on? You have to determine if you have an engine drive-ability problem before going after the transmission. If the engine has a misfire, it could be causing that kind of symptom also. If your unsure, swing into your local mechanic and have them take it for a ride. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

No "Service Engine Soon" light. Problem is erratic. Thanks for answering. I will see my local mechanic.
