Leaking Transmission

81' Ford f100 4.9L straight 6, leaking fluid from transmission at the point where the dipstick tube enters the pan, and on the other side by the linkage. What do I need to fix this and how much time and money am I looking at?? I have already bought what was supposed to be a gasket for the linkage side, but after taking the linkage apart, I still cannot figure out where it goes.

do you mean the shaft seal for the linkage is leaking? The dipstick tube usually uses an o-ring or a rubber bushing to seal it up and will have a bolt holding the tube about halfway up it. Take out the bolt and pop the tube out. Its a simple and cheap repair. The shaft seal at the linkage might be a bit of a pain to get out, but its not a labor intensive job especially since your van gives a lot of room for a guy to get at it.
