The clip fell out of the nylon speedometer worm gear on my 1965 Muncie M21 transmission. Is it possible (or advisable) to remove and reinstall the tailshaft housing while the transmission is still in the car? It's a custom hot rod, and the whole transmission is fully visible and accessible from the top. I'm concerned about reinstalling with internal components while the transmission is in the horizontal position. Any tips or potential pitfalls would be greatly appreciated.

You can take the tailshaft housing off with the trans in the car. Just remove the speedo gear 1st & may lose a bit of gear oil. Just support the trans & remove the mount............
