New clutch and gear box

Hi had my vauxhall vectra sri 1.8 2006 clutch replaced came out the garage and 2 hours later the clutch had burt out. the aa looked at it and said the clutch was not fitted correctly i took the car to a garage and they says it needs a new clutch and gear box can the clutch been fited wrongly and damaged my gear box

If the clutch was fitted incorrectly the trans would never go in, the input shaft goes through the disc, Its possible the disc was put in backwards, did you have trouble shifting this car after it was done?
Vauxhall vectra, never heard of that kind of car, just wondering where you are located? Gary(new york here)

Uk hear. No the car drove for 2 hours 1st it had a new clutch fitted then it wouldn drive and wouldn't go into gear it kept sticking in gear . And there was a strong burning smell from the clutch .could the gearbox damaged and burn the clutch out if the gear box is broken or could the person that fitted the clutch dun something that made the gear box to get damaged

FYI for Gary for now: Vauxhalls have been bought and sold to UK and Euro both Euro and Asian types of engineering ideas TMK. Also some sold to AU as many right hand drive. The company has changed hands a few times also TMK so expect midstream engineering of a VW and or a Kia perhaps?
Let OP say if he/she knows exactly - I'm just guessing based on some history of knowing some.......... Tom

If that disc was put in backwards and its not releasing properly, i would say that no damage would be done to the gearbox unless your forcing it in gear somehow. A test you can try is, with the car off see if the trans goes into gear without any trouble if it does than you should be ok, then see if you have trouble getting it into gear with the car running. If its goes into gear ok with the car off and not ok with the car running than you have a clutch problem. Try that.

Did you take it back to the garage that did the work or did you take it to another garage?
If they replaced the clutch components and it burnt up because of improper clutch replacement procedure or parts, the garage that did it should eat it and fix whatever was damaged for free. At least that is how it works here in the states.
If you took it to a shop that wasn't licensed or insured or you supplied them with the parts, you probably shot yourself in the foot.

No oil in the gearbox would definitely destroy the gearbox in no time.

Yes i took it back to garage and the were wanting more money to fix it and they said it was nothing to do with them that was wrong with it but when i got the car back they were oil leaking out the gear box witch it was not leaking when they took it away to there garage the brake down people said it was the clutch and they were saying it wasn't the clutch but i took it to a other garage and they said its the gear box and the clutch has burnt out he said there was no oil in the gear box when he opened it up so could it be the work they dun in the 1st place to replace the clutch coz the damage that recked my gear box ?

Of course the work they done could of damaged the gear box. If it was leaking so badly, why didn't they tell you before they did the clutch work? The act of pulling the CV axles could of caused the fluid to drain out and they may have not refilled the transmission. So many possibilities, but the main thing is that you have the repair order and a written inspection by another hopefully certified tech.
