My 2000 Saturn SL1 has been giving me transmission problems. It seems that whenever I apply the break to slow down and the car is decelerating, when it hits 1000 RPMs the engine revs up to the 2000 RPMs temporarily (roughly). This happens about 90% of the time I'm driving the vehicle. I tend to notice it happens more and worse when I am in bumper to bumper traffic (stop/go, stop/go). I've brought it to my mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong. They cleaned out the manifold and the problem seemed to go away (only for a few wks though). I would really like to be pro active about this problem so I am not caught off guard when my car dies or wont start. I'm scared my transmission may be failing and I'm looking at big $$$!!! Any feedback is welcome! Thanks! Maureen * Sorry I don't know the size of engine * Mileage is 150000

This sound more like an IAC (idle motor) problem than a tranny problem..... This is one of those problems you really have to see and is hard to diag over the internet... From what you posted I guess I would make sure there isn't any vacuum leaks & that the IAC if working properly....
