Transmission Issues MAJOR

I have a 1995 Mazda 626 LX 2.0 engine, DOHC. I purchased the car in Jan. 2007 used. In May of 2007 the transmission went out. It started by the O/D off light blinking. I stopped and checked the fluid and it was about a 1/2 court low. So I added the fluid and went on my way. However that was not to fix it. Ended up pulling it and puting in one from junk yard. Even with that one that went bad we could smell the transmission fluid was burned and just figured that was because the transmission was bad. Flash forward, a year later the junk yard transmission is bad. This time it went bad by just not being able to go into higher gears. For example, it started out it wouldn't go into overdrive, then it wouldn't go past 3rd, etc. The transmission that was in the car when I built it was then completely rebuild by my husband (who is a mechanic at a dealership, just not mazda). He then had two transmission specialists to check it out before it was put back in my car. I got the car back last week and drove it fine for 1.5 hours and then it started the same thing again. This time it won't go into 3rd gear. The fluid is new and looks that way but smells "burned". I had it put on the machine at Mazda and they said clutch packs need tightening but all of that was done before the transmission was put back in my car. Mazda did say there were no other codes coming up for it. He said it seemed that the transmission is not getting cooled enough. Which sorta makes sense because I live in NC and it happened both times in May just when it starts to get hot around here. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I like my car and other than the transmission it is a good car. It is paid for and I don't want any car payments. By the way in case you don't already know ( I know you probably do) my tranmission is FORD!
