Transmission?

My 1990 Buick Lasabre just drives backwards. It doesn't move forward. I think it is the transmission. I want to know if the problem can be fixed or if I might as well junk it. I'm in a budget. ($300). I will appreciate your answers. Thanks a lot.

For $300 you could probably get the seat turned around to face the other direction. That's about it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes, it would be if it was the least bit accurate. You have no forward gears. I seriously doubt that is an electronic problem but I'm sure our trans specialist be be along with his opinion.

The only thing electronic on your transmission is the converter clutch. That one uses a governor and vacuum modulator for shift timing. If fluid level and linkage is good, it has an internal problem. You might get lucky and score a 4t60 in the junkyard for $300. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Hello, This trans should be a 4t60E, this trans has a 1-2 band that may be broken or your low sprag is no good, to fix this the trans will have to come out and come apart, this will cost alot more than 300.00 im sorry to say. If you have reverse this will eliminate your input clutch and input sprag as these are on in both foward and reverse. Gary
