Transmission Shudder

I have a 2015 Chevy Traverse with 104,000 miles. What would cause the transmission to shudder between 25 and 45 miles an hour. This usually happens after letting off of the gas and shudders when I start to accelerate.

Our trans expert (Gary) will be along when he gets a chance. In the meantime try shutting off overdrive and see if it still does that.

The transmission is a 6 speed, which can be manually operated. I'm not sure if you were referring to using 5th gear manually, which will allow it to operate between 1st and 5th gears. I did try playing around with the transmission in manual but being this is an intermitted problem it was hard to determine if this made any difference. There is also traction control on this vehicle which I could also try shutting off, but this seems to be a transmission problem to me. I'm not sure if it's something with the valve body not allowing it to shift properly or another issue. I would think this could be something common with this transmission hopefully Gary has come across this problem before and can give me some insight as to weather its a major or minor problem. I hope the additional information is helpful. Thanks for the reply.

No, I was referring to the vehicle having an "overdrive off" button which many do. They should have some way to disable overdrive which shuts off the torque control solenoid.
We may need Gary to shed light on your model.

Hello,
6T70 Transmission, If this feels like a wash board effect or like your driving over railroad tracks, it's your converter shuddering. You could try changing the fluid or even adding a posi additive to see if anything changes. A posi additive is like an instant shudder fix. Gary

Yes, your description is exactly what is going on. Could you shed some light on what is going on with the converter such as just dirt/dirty oil or is the converter getting worn out? I did change the oil in the transmission twice in the last month. The first time it seemed to help but went back to shuddering. the second time last week seemed to help but still shudders. Changing the oil only gets about 50% of the old oil out. The posi-additive is that something I should add and leave in or should I run the car and if the shuddering stops change the fluid again?
One last question I cannot find in my manual or in my Haynes manual if the transmission fluid needs to be checked with the engine running in neutral or with the engine off, you would think they would be clear on that.

Fluid levels are always checked with the engine running in Park after running it through the gears.
The additive is only like a 2 ounce bottle and stays in the system. If you replace the fluid you may have to add it again.
The process of going into overdrive triggers the torque converter to lock up and eliminate all slipping. Apparently it's is not doing that smoothly. Gary can probably give you more detail on specifics of what is taking place.

Hello,
OK, That is your converter chattering, sign of it may be going bad, you could try the additive, should make a difference because the fluid will be more slippery and the chattering will most likely stop

Thanks for the suggestions and replies. Just wanted to follow up with my transmission issue as I'm sure that this is most likely a common problem. I did try the shudder fix and it did not fix my issue. Gary was right that my torque converter was going bad. I did have the torque converter replaced. After the torque converter replacement the problem was been resolved.
