Transmission help!

I drive a 1983 Ford F100 automatic 2wd. it has a 70's model c4 in it. my truck is an automatic with a b&m Z gate shifter in it. it wont go into 1st, 2nd or drive. but will go in reverse. Could this be the linkage?? I want to hook my shifter on the column back up and take the Z gate out of it. Will this help?

You should go under there and inspect the linkage and then watch the linkage move while someone operates the shifter. If the linkage is good and moving the manual valve to all positions, transmission either has a valve body or internal mechanical issue such as a smoked forward clutch. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
