My truck does not shift gears when it should and won't go into the higher gears once I reach 30mph, by the time I reach 40 mph it is almost red lining. It is a '94 Ford Explorer with a V6 4.0 and an automatic Transmission. What could the problem be......

There are several causes, a bad torque converter, the trans pump,a clogged up trans filter. If you can shift it manually and there are no problems doing that....more than likely a solenoid in the control box has failed and only a transmission shop has diagnosing equipment to test for electronic problems.
