Hello I need help, I have a 2001 cavalier Z24, 2.4L with the five speed transmission. My car was making a weird clicking-type noise coming from what I thought was the driver-side axle so I replaced both driver-side and passanger side axles and bearing/hubs. As I was test driving the car the noise was still there but not as loud. I was shifting from third to second when i let the clutch out the revs shot right up as if it were in neutral. There was no grinding, sliping or crunching. The stick will go in all gears and not move. Is it clutch or trans? how hard is going to be to fix any suggestions. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like the gear cluster inside the trans has stripped but the best way to find out if the clutch/or trans is at fault is to remove it for inspection and far as for DIY a haynes manual would help if you decide to tackle the prodject
