'92 ford explorer, 4.0 I beleive, A4LD transmition, 168000 miles- my explorer , when shifting between gears does'nt want to go to next gear untill you let off on the gas and let it shift and then give it more gas. happens mostlly between 1st and second but also between 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd to OD. Sometimes when you put into gear it won't take without giving a little gas. I was hoping the vaccum modlator might be going out. hopfully you can help me out, I would hate to have to put in a new tranny Thanks

Howard; That's definitely the symptoms of a vacuum modulator, but unsure if the A4LD has an external one. Easy enough to check. If it does, make sure the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the modulator is connected at each end, and you have a strong vacuum source when you unplug the modulator end with the engine running.
