gear wont engage Sign In

Driving a Ford Taurus(automatic) and it acts like it slipped into neutral without a noise! When trying to shift into Drive or reverse or any gear nothing happens, like there is no resistance! Was driving down the street fine about 35 mph when it happened! any help on this would be great! thanks!

have you checked your transmission fluid? and have you checked your gear shifter linkage to see if it came off? do you have park? if you have no park your axle could have slipped out of place on one or the other side

does the column shift feel firm with each click as you go down or is it sloppy? Check fluid and axles first as suggested. Whenever there is a transmission performance issue, the first thing that should be done is check the fluid. Most people never check it until there is a problem, even those who do check engine oil. It costs you nothing to check the tranny when you gas up just the same as the engine. If you don't do it now, its a good habit to be starting.
