thanks loren but i tried and it is inserted correctly i went and checked and it seems to be ok any other suggestion you might have would be great

Pokey; I'm not a trans. guy, but I'm pretty sure that 1st and reverse share the same gear in the trans. Soooo, I'm still thinking a linkage issue. Is there a trans. shop nearby that you could ask? Hopefully, someone here will jump in with some knowledge. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
