If it's shifting OK from a dead stop, then it sounds like the synchrs are worn out in the transmission and it's time to rebuild it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Obviously it doesn't shift great because it is grinding going into gear.

That's bearing and gear noise. Different component, same conclusion.
