i have a 99 dodge durango, v8, 5.2. it has 277,000 miles on it. i had been noticing a grinding noise for a couple days, i assumed it was time to change rotors and break pads, as this is a typical sound when it is time. but, yesterday i noticed it kind of sputtered when i pressed accelerator, then it quit doing it. as i was driving to get my son last night, the car would gett about 20MPH, and the RPM would rev up and not shift. It did this quite a few times, then it started just giving no power at all intermittently. i checked fluid, was less than a 1/2 qt. low. talked with guy at Advance and he said it could be the differential sensors not communicating together.and it can cause the trans to act crazy. this is my question...... would that be the first place i have checked before they just say a new transmission. this vehicle already has a new transmission in it, although it has been about 5 years ago, would appreciate any feedback as this is my only vehicle right now. thanks.

I would bring to a dealership or transmission shop and hava a scanner put on it first it might be just somthing simple as a solinode inop or thing thing like that. With that amount of miliage and if you have never done a tranny serverice could be a tranny too. Usally fluid condition is a good indicator of internal transmission problems.

The best/worst one I saw was & 0 something chevy 1/2 ton. Rotors were like that, pistons popped out , so no brk pedal. So he was using the E brk for God knows how long & the only reason he came in was he broke the cable to his e brk handle & couldn't release the brk. The e brk shoes were to metal & just about ready to go thru the drum portion of the rotor.
Good thing he didn't figure out he could zip tie the e brk mechanizim in the release postion so he didn't need the handle or he would've gone all the way thru the drum part & had zero way to stop (except for his feet & I saw that one to, leave the shop with no repairs)

Yup - had a good friend who listened to wild crunching and noises beyond description with rotors gone, caliper pistons so far out they bent and all that crap. Oh my. What is it they say "Bring a horse to water but can't make them drink" kinda thing.
I wasn't even looking for work or $$ but to help. Aye - what can you say? What messes my head up worse than it is already is she had the money but just didn't care!

My brother inlaw is just like that.
His blazer is so..........lose in the front end it ain't even funny.
I told him to buy the stuff (tierod ends and balljoints) and i would put them on for free..
Still wont do it, and he has the money also.
