transmission problems Sign In

hi i have a 2000 ford focus, 2.0 liter 110k ... so i had a ticking noise coming from the engine and they said it was my timing belt . I was at a red light and the car shut down and it wouldnt start so i couldnt get it to any other mechanic but the one across the street. before that when i was driving and pushing on the accelerator it would take awhile to speed up and then it would jump and catch up to itself after like 10seconds. It would jerk and do that at red lights or if im stuck in traffic it would jerk. They said i need a new tranny and im not sure if it needs a new one or if it might be a little more of a minor and less costly repair of completely replacing it. im asking more about the transmission more than anything else. The check engine light also was on.
