Wild card guess: Try unhooking negative battery cable for a few minutes and try again! It was somewhere near that year that trick worked for one that came by me with no other problems noted like burned fluid, or low fluid level, T

http://www.autozone.com/.../repairInfoPages.htm Tom was right about the battery disconnection medthod......this link is somewhat helpful, the thing is there could be other parts inside the control box causing this problem. You can try replacing the emc or tps...but there are no guarantees, my opion would be to take it to a trans shop for oil pressure test/diagnostic scan.

Key on...key off....key on.....key off .....key on, then count the engine light blinks and note the short pauses between them . But I'm pretty sure a advance diagnostic tool will be needed.

89 is OBD 1. Dave is correct. They do not give a lot of information unless you have a scan tool that will read manufacturers specific data. You may have to search around to find someone that still has one. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
