Does anyone know if a transmission out of a 1985 Camero z28 will bolt up in a 1983 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme?

Re: transmissions Sign In

  • 700r4 & th350 share a 27 spline yoke (31 spline th350's exist, but are not the norm)
  • 700r4 bellhousing to transmount 22 3/8"
  • th350 bellhousing to transmount 20 3/8" (w/ 9-1/4" tailshaft housing)
  • 700r4 overall length 30 3/4"
  • th350 overall length 30 5/8" (w/ 9-1/4" tailshaft housing)
  • 700r4 & th350 can utilize the same trans mount.
  • Shift linkage interchanges. Standard linkage adjustment will need to be done.
  • oil coooler lines interchange with some minor bending.
  • speedo drive gear. But NOT the driven gear.

z28 has 700r4(4l60e) your cutlass has eather a th350 or th200 (200 and 350 are same length) You may need to swap drive shafts to if interchangeable (at diff side). You also need to make sure they both have 3 wire connector for TCC lockup. You might have to swap bellhousing's. You may also run into issues with getting the dipstick tube fitted. Kick down cable, steel line for vacuum modulator and moving modifying mounts.

My personal opinion is it would be a lot easier and possibly cheaper to replace it with proper transmission used. If it has th350 you can go down to th200 .. the th200 is non-desirable so fairly cheap.
