Pirate I have a 2000 Mustang that needs to have the rod bearings replaced. The service manual says to (raise the car, raise the engine, then lower the car a little) to remove the oil pan. I can do the work myself, but I don't have the tools to lift the engine so before I touch anything I want to be sure it "can" be done.
1) Can the oil pan be removed without lifting the engine? There are a few inches of room between the pan and the crossmember, but it looks to me that it will be a tight squeeze.
2) Can the rod bearings be replaced without removing the engine? (i.e. by working from underneath the car?

No the oil pan can not be removed without jacking up the engine. If you can get the engine raised about 4 inches you have room to remove the pan. We use 2 4X4 blocks in the motor mount area. (one on each side of course) We use another block of wood under the fat part of the oil pan and jack the engine up from there. And yes you can replace the rod bearings without removing engine.
