i have a 1940 special deluxe chevy. i have heard that i could change the 4.11 rear end to a 1940 truck rear end 3.08. is this possible? i want to go faster than 45 mph. i know kits are available 3.55 rear end. but thats very expensive. any thoughts? thanks

The 3.08 may be a bit tall. My '40 Ford Coupe had 4.11 in it, so I know what you are dealing with. I found a Chev. Nova rear end that was the correct width and put that in it. 3.73, if I remember correctly. Otherwise, if you want to keep it 'stock', you may want to 'bite the bullet, and do the kit. Is yours a closed driveline?
