Hey all,

Just purchased a 1967 Mercury Marquis with a 410 V8. It has been sitting for a couple of years and I have replaced the battery, cables, solenoid, etc. It does turn over but will not catch. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Paul

I don't recall a 410 cid Ford?? No matter - a 390 might have been bored over some. Try priming with starter fluid and make sure choke plate can move. When cold it should trip with a tap on gas pedal to shut. Priming it should get some results even if stuck open. If stuck shut it may be flooding out.

Check for spark also when checking for why it's not starting or at least some reaction,

T

i have the same car. i have had it for about 10 years. the 410 is based of a 352 fe block it is intechangable with parts from a 352 to a 460 exept the exaust on 460 every other part is almost an exact match. it it want start check your fuel. pull off fuel line place it in jar and crank it see how much gas you have in jar. if gas in jar check igniton coil for spark. also the distributer has a black wire coming into it .the wire is natorious for breaking so like i said check spark and fuel.let me know how it goes. the carb. on that is hard to find so if you choose to replace it dont get ride of it !!!!

the 410 came in the marquis in 1967 and was discontinued in 1968. it was eplaced in 1968 with the 390 and 428. anyway, check the distributor and cap and maybe tale out all the plugs and pour some sea foam in each cylinder and let set for a day or so then install new plugs and try. also check the points and their gap.Smile.....ps...the 410 had 345 hp!

Paul the 410 engine in your Mercury is 390 block and Bore (4.05) with a 428 stroke crankshaft (3.98) heads, intake manifold, cams and most other parts that fit FE engines will interchange. 429 and 460 type engine is of the 385 series of Ford engines and part do not interchange with this engine. Hope this helps I have had many of the FE engines in many diffenert vehicles and still like them.

Interesting info but this thread is older than dirt. Looks at at dates and please avoid stuff on such old thread and start a new one with info if inclined,
