Store Brand Motor Oil
I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy with a little over 3000 miles on a rebuilt motor. It's time for me to change my oil and I was wondering if the Private Label Motor Oils are just as good as the more expensive name brands. Say for example the Advance Auto Motor Oil.

No, I wouldn't gamble with something that important. They will always be the lowest grade available. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I would like to stick a conventional and I would normally use a Pennzoil 10W-40, does that sound like a good choice?

The Pennzoil part is fine but the weight might be too heavy for most late model cars. Most require either 5W20, 5W30 or 10W30 these days. Heavier oil is bad for newer vehicles.

Comment: Oil is supposed to be rated by SAE for it's quality/properties and without research I find that bullsh*t. Brand names? IDK - companies change so fast it's hard to follow. Site is sponsored by Amsoil a synthetic that I can't find locally and use exclusively Mobil 1 in everything and never a problem back to a 1948 machine! T
