I have a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado 3/4 ton reg. cab pickup. It has a 350 in it, I assume it is the original engine. The odometer says 97,000 miles, but the carfax says almost 300,000. The engine oil cap says to use 5W-30 oil. Is this a good oil to use considering it's not new anymore when the cap was made. It is or appears to be using/leaking oil, but no smoke, and no drippings. I understand a rebuild job would be ideal, but the funds just aren't available right now.

Re: Oil Sign In

You could go to a 10W30 but i wouldn't go any heavier than that. These engine are engineered with tighter clearances for oil to travel and heavy oil can lead to dry cold starts and a lot of damage.
