Ball Joint Separator Tool (fitment) Sign In

This is just a general question.
I have a Suzuki Alto GF and will be separating the Ball joint from the hub soon. I have a ball joint separator tool ready to go.
My question is, when fitting that ball joint separator tool, I have to fit the forked steel part into the part above the ball joint rubber. It seems to be a tight fit. Will I destroy the ball joint rubber when fitting this tool? That's my only concern.
Thanks

Yes, you will likely destroy the rubber boot. Hard to avoid using a pickle fork.

They do make other tools to separate that like this one

Thanks for your reply. This is the tool I have. A variation of it anyway. Does the rubber boot slide down a little so I can get the fork (as shown above, using this tool) in between the control arm and boot? My concern is getting the fork in there without damaging the boot? Is that possible? Should I lubricate the fork with a silicone based lubricant so it'll slide in better? [

Yes, you should be able to slide the tool between the boot and the steel part of the knuckle.

Thanks mate! I'm assuming the boot will slide down? Can you recommend anything to make it slide down if it appears to be stuck at the top (leaving no gap)?

Not specifically but you should be able to move it with a small prybar or large screwdriver.

There is another method we use if you have some space to swing a hammer.

Use a very heavy hammer and strike the metal part of the knuckle as hard as you can. The jarring motion will usually break it free. You may have to hit it a few times.
Don't try this if there is any risk of hitting things you don't want to hit.
