Hello, new here . I was hoping some expert here might be able to settle a mystery that I've followed for some time. For years now (perhaps as much as 20, when I was more likely out riding my bike), I've found these things (image attached) out in the road, usually near the gutter side of the sidewalk. I find them everywhere. Near home (small city), out in the suburbs, or out on some lone road. Often there are two or three of them within the space of a block. They're always the same size. They're always in or near the road. Thus I assume they are some automotive part. They are steel (I assume), flat, long and rectangular in shape. I must have found hundreds of them over the years. Any idea?

That doesn't look like something that would come off an automobile. I would of said it could part of a wiper blade insert, but it doesn't look long enough. Plus 400 wiper insert supports on the side of the road would be highly unusual.

Maybe has something to do with construction or maybe a new alien plant growing on the side of road?

! You've been finding these for 20 years? !! Appears like Discretesignals said like metal of a wiper blade but doesn't account for so many.

This long and so many there's another reason not an automotive part IMO but debris from another source that seems constant.

A mystery story. Doubt you'll know for sure. Also just happens to look like spring steel used for picture framing or perhaps window production?

20 years of this doesn't add up to a common source to me,

I may have to face the fact that it might not be auto-related. I only guessed at that since they're always in the road (or at least the ones I notice are!).

If it can be anything else, I think I might be truly out of luck to figure it out. Argh.

Thanks for the replies.
