Hyundai Sonata Lawsuit

Hi All – I work with a law firm that’s filed suit against Hyundai regarding 1999 to 2004 models of the Sonata. The suit claims Hyundai failed to warn customers that the sub-frame lacks corrosion protection and owners are experiencing premature decay. Corrosion issues can lead to dangerous conditions if a car fails while in use. For those of you who may not know, the sub-frame sits under the engine between the front wheels, serves as the sole steering support for the Sonata and anchors the front suspension. If you are a Sonata owner, you can contact the law firm to join or learn more about this case. Please visit Sorry, Links not allowed. If you'd like to advertise, contact forum administrator.

'99 to '04 models? Every new car I've ever bought, I had the option of 'undercoating', which I didn't have done. If these vehicles are used in areas where road salt is used, #1 the buyer should request it or have it done, and #2 all vehicles when exposed to those conditions will rust. DUH. Five to ten years seems pretty good from what I've seen and heard. Just another friviolous lawsuit. On the other hand, who in thier right mind would buy a Hyundai? Hmmmm? Maybe the owners should be sued for hurting our economy? Loren SW Washington

I agree, just more frivolous law suits. Nobody puts rust protection on sub frames. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

What would hyundai be guilty of? Giving cheapskates exactly what they asked for, cheap throw away cars! Do you buy footwear at Wal Mart because of the quality, or the price? Do you B#$ch when they only last for a couple of months, and then plan to sue them! Why don't you sue the government for stealing from the taxpayers, at least then you'ld be fighting for something that people would respect you for.

That's my point exactly! I order fast food because its fast, I buy red wing or chippewa boots because there good, I know what I'm getting with each, and my expectations are set accordingly. You can sue anyone for anything, but its a close cousin to stealing. Is there no honor left in this world?

The lawsuit you refer to was that of Stella Liebeck vs McDonald's. Liebeck has been, I believe, unjustly made the butt of jokes about the American tort system, but all she asked of McDonald's in the first place was compensation for the $11,000 in medical bills for the skin grafts that were necessary after she was scalded in 1992. It was the arrogance of the McDonald's corporation throughout the legal wrangling they required of Liebeck that resulted in the punitive penalty the jury awarded. The jury thought McDonald's acted improperly as exemplified by juror Jack Elliott, who remarked after the trial that the case had been about such "callous disregard for the safety of the people." It seems that some people believe that all lawsuits are frivolous, unless, of course, they are the one with the cause of action.

Well, obviously this is coming from an attorney or someone involved in law practice somehow. Since they are the only ones that actually win in these litigations, that opinion doesn't surprise me.

*Big sigh* Ok I actually never read the case facts and you just made me google them.......There's one minute of my life I'll never get back. Facts On February 27, 1992, Stella Liebeck, a 79-year-old woman from Albuquerque, New Mexico, ordered a 49¢ cup of coffee from the drive-through window of a local McDonald's restaurant. Liebeck was in the passenger's seat of her Ford Probe, and her grandson Chris parked the car so that Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. She placed the coffee cup between her knees. and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap.[9] Liebeck was wearing cotton sweatpants; they absorbed the coffee and held it against her skin as she sat in the puddle of hot liquid for over 90 seconds, scalding her thighs, buttocks, and groin.[10] Liebeck was taken to the hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered third-degree burns on six percent of her skin and lesser burns over sixteen percent.[11] She remained in the hospital for eight days while she underwent skin grafting. During this period, Liebeck lost 20 pounds (nearly 20% of her body weight), reducing her down to 83 pounds.[12] Two years of medical treatment followed This is McDonalds fault.............HOW??????????????? They weren't arrogant, they were correct in not paying the medical bills of someone who had a brainfart and put their health in jeopardy but placing a container of HOT liquid between their legs.....Boy can't foresee any problems doing this, I mean what could possibly go wrong??????? The same as when they didn't pay the medical bills of the guy that put the straw in nose to hold while he took the lid off his cup, tripped & gave himself a frontal lobotomy. (actually that raised his IQ so the case was tossed) No, all lawsuits aren't frivolous. When a company or person does something that is negligent or knowingly puts someone or someone's property at risk and that person is hurt or property is damaged then that is what the court systems are for. To make the negligent parties pay for their negligence. Serving hot coffee isn't negligent, coffee is suppose to be hot. Hot hurts! We learn this early in life. My 2 year granddaughter knows this word. She walks by the fireplace and says "hot" and walks away. She doesn't go sit on it & then I sue the insert company because there was no warning sticker not to set grandkids on it while a fire is going. If she ordered a cup of warm coffee then that's a whole different story..... Apparently common sense is out the window and companies & manufacturers are on the hook & have to think of very conceivable scenario that could happen with their product & put a little warning sticker on it so they don't get sued. Take a moment and look at some of the sticker that are on the products today. I work in a shop and some of the warning are plain ridiculous. They have little stick men on the camera boom of the alignment rack with a slash circle on it....Wow you mean I shouldn't use that boom as a way to get up to the ceiling to change a light bulb.....That sticker probably saved me a nasty fall..... The Rotary racks have a little stick man running away while a car is falling......That one probably saved my life, would've never thought to do that in that situation........It's funny until you think about all the money thats spent designing & printing these common sense warnings and the money awarded in these frivolous cases. Who do you think pays for all this? The companies? Yea right! Geeeez dude pick a better lawsuit as your argument that law suits aren't frivolous.......This one is the poster child of frivolous law suits..........

unfortunately the people who actually need to see those stickers can't see them. Their sphincter blocks outside light from reaching their eyes. Yet somehow they manage to breed. I'm sure the offspring will be a veritable litter of Einsteins if what made them is any indication. Hope none of them drink coffee.

some gene pools need chlorine. used to be survival of the fittest before airbags, batting helmets and other such life-extending things convinced people that they no longer need to think for themselves and can instead be guided by the hand through life. When you have a grocery bag in your hand and need the warning telling you not to put it on your head to save you, please put your head in the bag and help save the human race. When you think that there is a UFO behind a comet that is going to take you to heaven, please drink the Kool-Aid. And if you don't know that a running lawnmower has a dangerous side to it, please try to fit it down your pants to ensure that the rest of us need not meet your offspring. A quick look at some winners of the Darwin Awards tells us how dumb people can be. Perhaps we are working backwards in evolution at this point.
