I have a 2003 Dodge Neon with 78,000 miles. I bought it in October of 2009 with 46,000 miles on it. Aside from needing new tie rod ends and a shift solenoid last fall, I haven't had any major problems until the last month. Since March 16, I have only been able to drive my car for about a week. First, it needed a new rack and pinion. Then the transmission needed to be replaced. Then the transmission needed to be replaced again. Today, two days after getting it out of the shop from the second transmission repair, the right rear wheel locked up on me. It's a brake problem, I think. So within the last month, I've had three major problems. Is it just coincidence, normal wear and tear, or did I not check the car thoroughly enough when I bought it (the Carfax was clean and it ran well at the time). Did I not maintain the car properly? Is there anything I may have done wrong here or is it just bad luck?

The car is nine years old with 46K miles on it. That means it did a lot of sitting around somewhere. There is something we are missing here whether it be dishonest repair people, lack of maintenance or that it's been exposed to harsh conditions like salt or water. There are a lot of things that a Carfax doesn't know about a car that just aren't documented any where. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
