Poss. Valve Lash Adjusters Noise

2001 Dodge Durango
4.7l V8
125K
Started out as a light clicking or tapping noise under the hood on the passenger side.
Noise was only heard from outside the vehicle.
Started it up one morming and the clicking was louder and could be heard from inside
of the vehicle.
After running for a few minutes the noise quited down. back to the "normal" sound,
the quiter sound.... (still not a normal sound)
Noise returned after startup, even with engine still warm.
Next day noise appeared to be back to the "normal" level again. Let engine run for about 10 min at
an idle.
Returned a few hours later and started up and noise was again at the "louder" level?
Question # 1.
Is it ok to drive like this??? I do not have a choice until I can fix.
#2.
Could this really be the lash adjusters?
#3 If I repair do i need any special tools. I read that I need a spring tool that I found online for over 100$$.
And should I do all 8, just the 4 on the one side, or just 1. Any other parts that should be done while in there?
#4 If i have this reapair done, how expensive will this be approx for a shop to do? Hours for the job??
Plus parts of course.
Any help or advice is greatly apreiciated...

I don't how where your coming up with that diagnosis but it is highly unlikely. You could have an oil pressure problem, oil feed problem, bad lifter, timing chain, timing chain guides, etc, etc. It's not the type of thing to ignore. Even if you can't afford to fix it, that would be you can afford to replace the motor even less.

Thats what we orig thought was a bad lifter.
The things i have been able to find online were saying the other.
Is it best to replace all on one side if it is infact a lifter or replace just the bad one?
How complicated of a job is it if I were to attempt myself or how much would
I be looking at if I have it done by a shop?
Is it safe/ok to drive for a day or two until I can get it in to a shop??

How can I answer any of that? At this point you have no idea what is wrong with it. It's sounding like some kind of oil pressure issue and if it is, I surely wouldn't be driving it.

Yes its a serious problem
No i dont think you would be able to fix yourself
No i would not drive it
Yes i would have it towed to a shop

Your engine doesn't even have adjustable valves, therefore no lash adjusters.

Yes the 4.7 has lash adjusters/lifters whatever you want to call them.it can be serious but not enough to stop driving immediately. I've been driving my dodge with that tick for years it is OK.haha.yes you can do it yourself.rent the tool from a parts store the tool that works with the can on.and might as well change all 16 while your doing it.I know this is old but damn I had to chime in with what I was reading

First of all you are a fool and dead wrong.
