Would you guys share your experiences with rebuilt vehicles? Do you think they're a mistake most of the time? Would you buy one for yourself?

They reduce the value of the vehicle by approximately half so most of the time, they are good to stay away from. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes, but I'm more asking about mechanical issues? I tend to keep cars until they break, so it's resale value is of limited importance.

I know of these as cars/vehicles as "Salvage Titled" which means the manufacturer has zero responsibility for them anymore no matter what. Support for any problems, specifications could be a killer problem to keep them going at all. IDK - the up front savings could easily be lost and suggest against taking on one of these for real use in most cases. In a worse case you may have trouble even junking it? T

Of course you can have mechanical issues, along with serious body issues. You have no idea who rebuilt the car or how well. The frame could be twisted or dramatically weakened. Body panels could be permanently misaligned causing leaks that cannot be fixed. The title is permanently branded and in some states you can't even register them. The issues could be endless. I am a car dealer and I see these hacked up messes all the time at the auction. Other dealers are smart enough not to pay anything for them.
