I was wondering if anyone is familiar with what I believe is a a 305 V6 big block? The first time I ever saw one was in a 1967 GMC and wasn't to sure what I was looking at first thought was 402 till noticed the spark plugs weren't in the usual place but were up by the intake manifold. The man selling it was a rare pick-up I didn't about that could be but found it interesting for sure. Let me know if any off you are familiar with this engine. Thanks; Travis

1967 - right? It's either totally custom rare or someone stuck some other engine in it. I can think of any "V6" engines for a GMC anything they were all "I-6" means "in-line" or a ''straight" six if a six cylinder. Didn't call sixes big block or not that I recall for six cylinder GM engines in 1967, T

I did a little research GMC built these V6 engines in different engines displacements in gas and diesel for there standard trucks from 1959 through 1969. This was factory unmolested original 1967 don't think too many are familiar with these this was my first. Thanks; Travis

What model do they call this thing? GMC is still a Chevrolet really just another name. If this truck (they didn't make cars) was a custom made order by an executive to be different they did do such things, one of a kind and most collected and never so much as wet once released no use really at all if rare enough. Other than that I can't think of any V6s for GM anything till later. Might be just me but never called V6s big or small blocks in anything. All V8s - any GM got named big or small block. Possible - yes. Likely NO! Not trucks but have seen a 1972 Buick Riviera both hood and trunk had the "boat-tail" one made and real I saw it myself from the Domino Pizza founder's collection in Maryland then when he got out. People who have such things don't guess they can prove it without doubts, serial #s and marks it wouldn't have otherwise or the thing just has something thrown in and you don't know what? Tom

History Some of the first V6-cars were built in 1905 by the Marmon Motor Car Company.[2] Lancia V6 The first series production V6 was introduced by Lancia in 1950. Other builders soon started using V6 engines. In 1959, General Motors built a heavy-duty 305 in3 (5 L) 60° V6 for use in their pickup trucks and Chevrolet Suburban. The engine was later enlarged to 478 in3 (7.8 L) for heavy truck and bus use. In 1962, the Buick Special offered a 90° V6 with uneven firing intervals. Consumers did not like this engine because of the vibration. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

This old GMC came from Tyler Texas read this dealers engraved insignia badge. When I saw it was sitting on a lot that sells old cars and trucks. It's long gone now and needed a lot of work and sure didn't need another project that's why I didn't buy it. Just thought the engine was interesting and thought I would ask and see if anyone remembered these engines or worked on them. As Hammer Time found other manufactures that manufactured V6 even earlier the one I saw. Detroit diesel made a V16 which were 2 V8 8V-71 or 8V-92 series saw on when working for diesel shop. Thanks; Travis

The engine looked like it had long stroke with that wide v configuration block so it would make it a good candidate for hauling pulling such as a tow truck. Thanks; Travis
