Which one would you choose?

Hey everyone! Please help. Assuming each one of these had 220K miles, voting strictly on reliability to get me through the next 2-3 years; which one would you choose? SUV/Truck suggestions within the same range not on this list are welcome. 1995-2000 Toyota 4Runner 2000-2005 Toyota Sequoia 2000-2005 Ford Expedition 2000-2005 Ford F-150 2000-2005 Chevy Tahoe 2000-2005 Chevy Suburban 2000-2005 GMC Yukon

That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. 220K miles and reliable for the next 2 or 3 years. You can't be serious about expecting that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You are right, I apologize. I am just looking for the best option in a higher mileage truck or SUV for cheap, realistically I should be able to find something with 160K - 180K miles.

The size and style of the vehicle is personal preference and needs but unquestionably, Toyota makes the most reliable vehicle.

Why all so many miles? It can be done and good for more just lots less likely. Both age and miles should = lower cost now costs to keep another couple to 3 years without one instant problem that exceeds it's value is tough. IMO is all it can be. Skip all 4X4 just more to make everything costly if you need it (most never do) it's just that much harder on vehicles. If the F-150 has enough cab room for your needs is a fair bet lots sold parts easy and doable so are all depending on history. First thing is the one passes all you visual inspections and a test drive then next is pay for a REAL shop with qualifications to inspect it, wheels off and hidden damage checking know better what you probably have right away or getting close. Good luck said IMO the miles are enough has to be countered by care along the way or it's tough gambling, T

Thanks for the responses! I currently own a 2008 Silverado with 169K miles that I have had a top end job done twice on and it is starting to show signs of going out again so I would rather just get out of the payment and buy something cheap (under $5K) with cash, that way if something happens I don't have to put more money into something I still owe on.

$5,000? You do know a repair can cost that - right? Current vehicle IDK why so much work probably bad luck or not really cared for or fixed well to begin with? Unknown as I've known 2008 (Suburban) exceed those miles but a total care vehicle from new never left or used in Winters garaged always the miles really are just quick 2,000 miles runs a couple times a year pounded the miles back to rust free LA helps tons. Family owned so know it better, T

Yes sir, I understand; but that same $5K repair could just as well happen to my current truck (again) which I still owe $7K on so I would rather buy a older vehicle with cash so if anything happens it would be on a vehicle that I own outright. Just looking for some recommendations for vehicles that give me the best chance to make this happen.

Uggg. You're under water now and throwing the dice again to me. You must have noticed that mile dump the prices think another brand is magically going to do better than your current one. It's just not so easy to know. You can try to pick engines, transmissions known to be better in hindsight it still will end up the exact one you go for if you do this how well it was cared for. Even then if you can guess when whacked, costly things just happen IDK how they make stuff new and still mess up. Begs the question how long should things last back to IMO is total care from new, garaged is huge favor for stuff in general. About the miles to me never mind drivetrain stuff. Whole vehicle has gone that far, that many bumps, time just sitting on upholstery can bust the bank or get a seat spring where the sun don't shine. Hinges give out plastic ones first all over vehicles. The toys I'll call stuff just wears out the motors/actuators, rubber seals, sun visors and 10,000 other things just start failing stupid stuff even but can't ignore it. If you expect A/C plan on another 5K hit if you choose wrong or bad luck too. Reworked stuff IMO and have the T-shirt isn't good to other things to do it! I mean you take a dash all apart or just pull engines out every wire, plug and dinky crap everywhere will be a nightmare plastic crap now the rule turns to like egg shell cracks in your hands. IDK which engine you had to do a top end to twice many offered some prove better than others and some improved parts if too common might end it. Vehicles are a plain expense you can only do so much to prolong life of things if used and if just stored away that's no good most of the time either. Wish you luck if you want to take the chances take the one that not a thing is broken now check it all yourself for the silly stuff now 40 cup holders in even pickup trucks you know what I mean makes no sense but that's what sells them new screw the next owner. You didn't ask about this part but try hard to dig out of borrowing $$ for a vehicle but there are good reasons to sometimes. I coached some customers when paid off to quit that and make "phantom" payments were regulars so knew the care was relentless allow it to pay off and be a cash customer, zero payments you can really talk saving some bucks. It's just not possible to predict the luck of much of it you are just changing the odds to your favor at best, Tom

Thanks, Tom! I understand that each car is different and you never know what your going to run in to, haha but I am due for a "good apple" so hopefully I end up with one. The more research/searching I do I see that there are more Toyota's with 300K+ miles and any other make out there which does hold some weight for me so that is probably the direction I will lean.

Again, good luck. Yes there are decent vehicles that make it and more than that or choke in no time. Gets tricky used just the reputation of a make vs the one in front of you. Side note but related: No so young anymore and in a hurry for a car to quickly be ready to wail miles on. Both friends and customers had just a 3 year old car, full size a must with the worst of the "Big Three" US car makers was worse still the 4th car maker AMC also IMO the ugliest thing ever made. I knew the thing and care had a known good engine, trans set up also ordered new for towing and hard work. Turns out that dang thing couldn't be killed if you tried was incredibly dependable. I did care for it as I would and turned out to be a top 10 most dependable vehicles I owned out of countless - I literally can't count how many easily some owned weeks some I kept just a couple gave up and took parts and kept going. It happens the best reputation ones can be a bummer or worst can be exceptional if you could get over UGLY is also why the price was right, Tom

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from. I am a car dealer and that truck prices out on a private sale at about $6700 if it's 2WD. Less if it's 4X4.

Haha again, soo far off topic. I live in truck country (OK) and have already gotten multiple trade in offers for $9k, I could sell it private party for $11-$13K but that is besides the point.

Well, if that is truly the market value where you live, I wouldn't want to own what $5K can buy there. You will have to do your buying in another state to get anything decent for that kind of money.

Haha understood, really that kind of value is only for trucks which is why the chances of me finding a truck (besides an F-150) is low; the value of large SUV's are much lower.

Anything is reliable if you consider its reliability as a factor or its owner's willingness to maintain it... Otherwise you might be best off with the yoda
