Windshield Issue!!!!! Sign In

I have a problem with my windshield. When it rains I can not see thru it. The wipers are fine and I applied turtle wax to help the water bead off, but it did not work. I have rain x in the reserve but it isn't helping either. I know there is something that will make the water bead off, my husband used to do it but he is gone now and I can't figure it out. Please help.

Get some Bon Ami cleanser and scrub the windshield until all the wax is off of it. Then you will have a good place tgo start with the rain x product. Good luck.

Why does the wax have to be scrubbed off? I have been told to never wax a windshield but my husband did it all the time and it worked well, so I do not know what I am doing wrong. Do you really think the rain x will work for beading the water off?

Yes it will. But the windshield needs cleaned really good first. Wax does not dry really clear and can cause fuzziness or distortion.

I prefer windshields that don't bead up with waxes or rain-x but I like rain-x on other windows. Wipers even if newer can get build up on them and cleaning them with rubbing alcohol can help. I've gone as far as carb cleaner on a towel with good results but it is hard on rubber products.

Rain-x does get to be a problem if you need to repair a small star type crack in the glass which I've had done and the place said that the rain-x about stops them from success with those repairs,
